Epoxy Guard
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a garage epoxy coating? +
A rigid, thermosetting resin applied to concrete to create a durable, stain-resistant and visually appealing surface. A professionally installed, high-quality coating lasts 10 to 20 years — a highly cost-effective upgrade.
What's the difference between epoxy and standard paint? +
Standard floor paints sit on the surface and are prone to peeling. Epoxy is a blend of resins and hardeners that chemically react, creating a much thicker, impact-resistant bond to the concrete that can handle vehicle traffic.
How long does installation and curing take? +
The process takes 2 to 5 days, largely depending on surface preparation. You can generally walk on the floor after 24 to 48 hours, but wait 5 to 7 days before parking a vehicle or moving heavy items back in.
Will it get damaged from "hot tyre pickup"? +
Hot tyre pickup is when heat from tyres softens cheaper coatings, causing them to bond to the rubber and pull away. Premium coatings like 100% solids epoxy and polyaspartic topcoats prevent this.
Is an epoxy garage floor slippery? +
A high-gloss floor can be slippery when wet. Non-slip additives such as aluminium oxide or decorative flakes add traction. Keep in mind there is no such thing as an easy-to-clean non-slip surface, so choose what matters most to you.
Will the colour fade or yellow in the sun? +
Traditional epoxy can amber over time under harsh UV. If your garage gets intense sunlight, we recommend a UV-stable topcoat such as polyurethane.
How do I clean and maintain an epoxy floor? +
Simply sweep or vacuum regularly, and mop with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral detergent when needed. Avoid abrasive scrubbers and harsh chemicals.
Can I DIY the application? +
DIY kits are budget-friendly, but long-term durability relies on proper concrete grinding and moisture testing. Poor preparation is the leading cause of peeling and bubbling — for a lasting finish, hiring an expert is highly recommended.
